What was he trying to do? There must have been something wrong with the winch, or the winch strap, or the boat’s bow eye. But why wouldn’t he use a rope or the strap itself to somehow tie the boat to the winch stand?

Or maybe he thought the boat was properly secured to the winch, and he was attempting to align the back of the boat on the bunks? Sometimes if a boat launch is really steep, the back of the boat will float around from side to side even if the bow is secured. But this doesn’t seem like a reasonable explanation because the trailer features guide poles on the sides.

Whatever the case, the driver must not have been keeping an eye on the side mirrors, because he or she doesn’t hit the brakes until the boat crashes to the concrete. And the guy attempting to hold the boat has an unpleasant crash onto the winch stand. Ouch! (Because of all the stuff piled in the back of the pickup, the rearview mirror wouldn’t have shown the boat.)
